"We produce proteins for ourselves and for the world," he said, "meaning that it is not just any product" because "the population requires proteins to grow and soybeans are a source of protein".

Montevideo - TodoElCampo - The president of Grupo Los Grobo participated in the Hoy hoy toca program that is broadcast on the City Channel (Buenos Aires, Argentina). The producer and businessman referred to soybeans and the use of transgenic or genetically modified organisms. He considered that the criticisms that are made are for "fear" but in reality the technology allows the poorest to eat, that is why "technology is friendly with the poor".

Gustavo Grobocopatel said that soy is a "protein". Referring to Argentina, but also very valid for Uruguay, the businessman said that "we produce protein for the world".

"We produce proteins for ourselves and for the world," he said, "meaning that it is not just any product" because "the population requires proteins to grow and soybeans are a source of protein".

"We are not making a luxury product" but "a product for humanity, for food security".

He considered that "many of the criticisms" are not focused on soy itself but "on forms of production and technological issues," "more ideological issues" or "beliefs," some of those criticisms arise because of the "fears" that has the society.

He explained that when one is called a "transgenic" word, one thinks of something like "Frankenstein" but "transgenic is the use of very sophisticated technology from the best scientists", and the goal is to produce more and of better quality.

"If they produce more, it means that costs shrink" and if costs shrink, poorer people can access food "for which reason" technology is friendly with the poor, "he said.

If "more is produced there are more people who eat", so "soy is so demanded, because there are people who want to eat" and we have the possibility of producing it, he said.
