Within the framework of the Argentine Carbon Neutral Program (PACN), with the aim of responding to the demands of external markets and the different local and international regulations, the Sectoral Manuals for the Calculation of the Carbon Balance and Good Practices were presented. Environmental of the Wheat Table, which were developed by a team of consultants made up of professionals from INTA and INTI.
More than 120 representatives of the agro-industrial chain of this crop participated in the presentation.
The Sectoral Manual for Calculating the Carbon Balance, as a practical guide, is aligned with the ISO 14067 standard plus the product categories based on a local life cycle analysis validated by member companies and associations. The manual features open calculators that allow each link in the chain, from cradle to
the port of departure in Argentina, easily calculate its carbon balance in line with the international standard.
The Manual of Good Environmental Practices, as a management guide, includes the life cycle analysis of the calculation manual and on it lists practices that have a positive impact on the reduction of the carbon balance, aligned with the Development Objectives
Sustainable Development (SDG) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard as an impact measurement tool, both communication and performance measurement practices widely used at a business and financial level.
Both tools are the result of a collaborative approach by witness and validating companies representative of all the productive links within the PACN Wheat Table ecosystem.
The availability of the manuals to the different actors in the chain is free, upon express request to the PACN Secretariat, with the aim of achieving a uniform implementation at the national level and their subsequent individual certification by the companies and
certifying organizations registered in the program. Against said certification, individuals may request the seal 2 of balance and/or 3 of carbon neutrality of the program.
Consequently, the PACN seeks to accompany each of the productive links of the export chains in Argentina in environmental management. In particular, the Wheat Table of the PACN is made up of the following members:
- ArgenTrigo
- Basf
- Bioceres
- Centro de Exportadores de Cereales
